Organized October 8, 1886, continuing the Chicago Stamp Collectors
Union, which was organized December, 1884. The CPS is APS Chapter No.1, and one of the two organizations with the
longest uninterrupted service to philately in the United States.
The Chicago Philatelic Society holds monthly stamp meetings (on the third Thursday of each month) in Downtown Chicago
at the Harold Washington Library (400 S State St); the meeting room is posted at the entrance. Meetings run from 7:00
to 9:00pm, and usually include a philatelic presentation and some society business. All are welcome. Many
of our speakers are advanced collectors, so be prepared to see exciting stamp and postal history subjects. Many of the
members have an informal dinner before the meeting at the Plymouth Restaurant & Bar (327 Plymouth Ct) from about 5:45
to 6:45pm.
Each year in November we host CHICAGOPEX — one
of the four largest stamp shows in the country — that attracts dealers, exhibitors and stamp enthusiasts from around
the nation and the world. Click on CHICAGOPEX 2010 (above left) to see information about this year's stamp show.
We invite you to visit us or attend a meeting. Our
members are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the organization and how you can join.
